    Space Under Construction

Alright. I added a SLIDE guestbook. Scroll down to sign it.

The Spaces Map gadget died out. Still trying to fix it. Crying

The two QnA gadgets are picky. If they have an error, they won't appear on the viewer's screen.

Halo 2 for Windows Vista's Banshees are Dumb as a Rock

It took me a good half of an hour to get the Scarab Gun on Halo 2 Vista. Man, those banshees are dumb. They either keep getting stuck or they fly off. But finally!

Here's a picture from the Internet. The awesome firepower!! smile_party

    Back to blogging.

Alright. I was really busy with school related stuff and Windows SP1. So i had no time to blog. Alright, lets start with what I was busy with. I'm in Science Olympiad. For anyone who doesn't know, http://www.soinc.org/. I went to Northeastern PA's Science Olympiad Regional Competition. I got Dad to take a few pictures of the team. I didn't do too bad. I placed in 3 events. Out 15-people team came in 4th at Regional. Therefore, we are going to States. That is April 24 and 25th, 2008. That exactly corresponds with one of my Monthly Screenshots. So I'll do the screenshot the 23rd.

I got Windows Vista SP1 installed with lots of trouble

Wow, it took two attempts to install Windows Vista Service Pack 1. Here are some comments and suggestions. For those who install it, check your drivers by going to Start-->Control Panel-->Hardware and Sound-->Device Manager. Check for any problematic drivers (The ones with a yellow exclamation marks), especially all the network drivers. Also, I suggest you use use Windows Update to install SP1. The package is smaller because it only has 1 language and Windows Update knows if you are compatible with SP1. If you are not, it will not show the update to you.

Now to my own opinion. 1st attempt were ugly. Took 5 or so minutes to download the 69.9MB file.  It goes through all the install options. After restarting, it does the real installation. It has 3 steps. On the last step at 99%, it gives me an error "Service Pack did not install. Reverting changes. Do not turn off your computer." Aw, I wanted to  $#(*&$#( my computer. I was mad. I timed the total install time, which was 49 minutes on my computer. The total uninstall process was 1 hour 22 minutes. It successfully uninstalled. I got the error code and typed it in. I eventually found a problematic IPv6 driver. Of course, it's the driver that killed the installation. At that time, it was late at night. I slept while it reinstalled. When I woke up, it was finished. So I learned my lesson, check the drivers before installing any Service Pack.

I noticed a few immediate things with the Update. First, the restore time from a Hybrid Sleep is much faster. The copy+paste speed is also faster. Some other things are security-wise. Now, I'm happy smile_regular.

I have some pictures of the installation in the Albums section on the site. Feel free to check it out.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 RTM is out... Well, Silently...

This morning I checked Windows Update for SP1. Didn't appear. When I came home this afternoon. I found out that Microsoft silently posted the RTM. Check the URL at the bottom or Windows Update. You should find it. For some reason.... There was no celebration, no announcement, nothing. Kinda strange. Anyway, just a warning and a tip. First, the SP1 team still says that there are some driver issues. If you have Symantec (Norton) Antivirus, I suggest you wait until Norton can do something about it. Remember: BACKUP YOUR COMPUTER. If something fails, you could end up with a non-bootable PC.

As for me... TIME TO INSTALL!! I'll post back on the results. fingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossedfingerscrossed

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Released Tomorrow!! (Tuesday, March 18, 2008)

Ready-to-Manufacture (RTM) version of Vista SP1 is coming out tomorrow. I'll be installing. I can't take any screenshots of it because I'll be @ school. But I'll come back to report the results.

To all folks that are willing to install tomorrow: BACKUP UP YOUR SYSTEMS!!! Even though it is a RTM (Final) version of something, that doesn't mean it is perfectly safe. I suggest a HD image, I use Acronis True Image Home.

Windows Vista Service Pack 1 Coming Soon!!

Windows Vista SP1 is due for release to the general public for Mid-March of 2008. I've heard of specific dates like March 15 or 17, I'll go with Mid-March. I got to beta test the Beta 2 Refresh 2 version (The version right before the final release). Then they told me that the Beta 2 Refresh 2 version has the same codes as the RTM (Ready-to-manufacture, or final release). So, basically, I got the RTM version installed on a Virtual PC. Not much graphical improvement, just performance and security updates.
